So it's been a really, really, really long time.
And to be honest, I'm not sure that I remember how this all works ... or even who's who.
But I've been thinking about cautiously coming back.

So as a start, I'll show you what I've been working on lately. It's still all new, and unfinished, and it's not shiny or polished yet ... but I've been making stuff, and I'm actually opening a little Etsy store. I'm going to post the link in case anyone is interested. There's not much there, but in time, there will be, and I'm pretty excited about it.
It's been great for me to actually have something to focus on, and I've been learning a lot.

A large section of the hillside just outside Boulder City is on fire. The fire started this afternoon, and the severe winds we've been having caused it to spread quickly. As of earlier this evening, over 1,000 acres had burned. You can smell smoke pretty much everywhere, and when we went to take a look, we could see how frighteningly quickly it was spreading towards town.
Fortunately from the information we have at the moment, the continued spread is Westward (into the mountains) rather than South (towards Boulder City). At this point unless something goes Very Unexpectedly Wrong, we are unlikely to be evacuated or otherwise directly effected.  One of the locations to which people are being evacuated is Centennial Middle School (where I attended 6th Grade) just up the hill from this house.

There were several fires, at least one or two of which have been 100% contained. The latest update we have on the main fire, however, is that it is "zero percent contained" due to the inconsistent nature of the fire (obviously related to the wind situation) and "fingers of fire" spreading away from the central areas. Which is obviously not comforting. However, on the more comforting front, we have been told that "the fire’s Incident Commander is hopeful that [the] firefighters can hold their position throughout the evening." Also somewhat more comforting is that the wind seems to have dropped (apparently to something around 25 MPH), whereas earlier it was averaging 60-65 MPH, with gusts up to 80 MPH.

Anyhow, we'll be going to bed soon, and as long as we don't wake up to the "you must evacuate your home, leave within the next 10 minutes" phone call, all's well.

free riceSo, here's something cool that I've discovered recently. You like words, you like feeding the hungry, you like .. rice. Click on this site, and it'll ask you a vocabulary word (not unlike ye olde SATs). For each question you get right, their sponsors (who pay for the relatively non-obtrusive adds at the bottom of the page) donate money to buy 10 grains of rice. Which isn't much, but it adds up quickly.
The rice is distributed by the United Nations World Food Program.

The vocab questions have 50 different levels, ... get three in a row right, and it bumps you up a level, get one wrong and it bumps you down a level. This means that it'll keep you challenged (unless your vocabulary is good enough to exceed their system) AND that the amount of rice you end up "earning" isn't linked to how good your vocabulary is, but rather to how long you've been playing.

I'd say that's a pretty good deal. Enjoy.

Well, the subject pretty much sums it up. I'm going to try to make a fresh start here.
I've made all my old entries private, because I don't want to lose them, but I did want them to disappear. (Now if I could just hide them from myself, too ... )

I think there will be more to come, but this is good for a starter.
Hey again.
